Waking

My favorite time each day
Is when I first awake
Alarm clock off
Nudged by dawn's first light

I lie there peacefully
Not quite asleep
no thoughts, bare cognizance
a natural buzz

Drifting, gliding, soaring
High above the clouds
Beyond the sky
Into space, the universe
Timeless serenity

A gentle climax to the night
The deepest of joys
Darkness with a dash of light
Make it last forever

I crack an eye and see you there
Your love floods through me
I sigh
Warm, soft and safe I feel
Tears well up in my eyes
In gratitude

God must have given me this time of day
A little glimpse of heaven
To taste
A joyful bliss to start the day!
